Delhi Metro Installing digital interactive pods for the benefit of commuters at metro stations
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is installing interactive digital pods in its stations which will give detailed information to the commuters about the Delhi Metro network, stations, train timings, fare structure etc.
These interactive pods, scheduled to be installed at 28 Metro stations will also have detailed information about the Delhi city and its major tourist attractions.
Initially, a total of 60 pods are being installed at selected Metro stations on Line 1 (Dilshad Garden - Rithala), Line 2 (Jahangirpuri – HUDA City Centre) and Line 3 (Dwarka Sector 21 – NOIDA City Centre).
The main stations on which the pods will be installed are Rajiv Chowk, Kashmere Gate, Dilshad Garden, Shahdara, Vishwavidyalaya, Barakhamba Road etc. While the Rajiv Chowk and Kashmere Gate stations will have four pods, all the other stations will have two each.
Eight such pods have already been installed at the Barakhamba Road, Rajiv Chowk, Kashmere Gate and Vishwavidyalaya Metro stations so far. These pods are currently undergoing trial and software checks and will be operational within a month. Installation of such pods in the other stations is also in progress.
In the future, the pods will also have the provision of providing accessibility to the portals of the Indian Railways, major Airline companies and the Google earth map. It is also proposed to equip these pods with the Bluetooth facility to ensure that all the downloadable information available in the pods is easily transferred to mobile phones.
The pods will all be internally networked and there will be the provision of flashing instant public information messages on them. This facility will help the DMRC in providing any emergency information regarding the running of trains to the commuters.
The size of these pods will vary from 42 inches to 62 inches depending upon the availability of space at the stations.
