DELHI METRO CELEBRATES 25th FOUNDATION DAY
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) today celebrated its 25th Foundation Day. The Silver Jubilee celebrations were held at Manekshaw Centre, where Honorable Vice President of India, Sh. M Venkaiah Naidu graced the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice President said, “Delhi Metro is the pioneer in Metro expansion in the country. It is the symbol of the progress the country has made in the last few years.”
The Vice President congratulated Delhi Metro for entering the 25th year and lauded the commendable efforts of DMRC in providing world class services. He urged the urban administrators to focus more on exploring different forms of public transport to decongest the urban space.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs & Chairman, DMRC, Sh. Durga Shanker Mishra said “DMRC is not only carrying millions of passengers every day, but also leading the transformation in the technology in the public transport sector.”
The Chief Secretary of Delhi, Sh. Vijay Kumar Dev, said “Metro has undoubtedly brought in a revolutionary change in the public transit in Delhi. In its phased manner expansion, Metro has reached different corners of national capital as well as the satellite towns around it. The transit in the city has been made comfortable, quick and safe.”
DMRC’s Managing Director, Dr. Mangu Singh, in his welcome address thanked each and every employee of DMRC who contributed in the journey so far. He said, “"The 25th Foundation Day is a special occasion in any organisation. When you look back at the development, what started with 8.4 km & has grown to 373 km, is one of the largest networks in the world. With this we are making lives of daily commuters easy".
On this occasion, the annual Managing Director’s Awards were also given away to the deserving winners by the Vice President. The New Delhi Metro station was adjudged the ‘Best Metro Station’ and Sh. N S Ahluwalia, Group Station Controller was honored with the ‘Metro Person of the Year’ award. Ms. Garima Bhadauria, Assistant Section Engineer/Rolling Stock received the “Metro Woman of the Year” award. Besides them another 42 employees of DMRC and one employee of the CISF received the Managing Director’s Award for meritorious performance.
Sh. M P Singh, Chief Development Specialist, JICA was honored with a special award for his contribution in ensuring smooth coordination between DMRC and JICA. In addition, a special award was also given to Sh. Pramit Garg, Project Director, NOIDA-Greater NOIDA and Sh. Navneet Kothari, Chief Engineer, Track for their excellence in the construction of NOIDA-Greater NOIDA section.
