DMRC CONFERRED WITH THE PRESTIGIOUS YES BANK NATURAL CAPITAL AWARDS



The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been conferred with this year’s Yes Bank Natural Capital Awards (Runner Up) under the Eco Corporate (Services) category for its Prakriti – Eco Park project.

 The prestigious award was given away on Friday, to recognise the organisation’s commitment to driving environmental sustainability practices and initiatives. DMRC’s Managing Director, Dr. Mangu Singh received the award on behalf of DMRC from Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Minister of Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Government of India. 

Spread over an area of over 10 acres, the ‘Prakriti – Eco Park’ has a host of recreational as well as artistic attractions. Facilities such as an auditorium, amphitheatre, meditation alcove, playground for children and gymnasium have been provided for the visitors. A lake with fountain along with a rain forest has also been created in the park.

The main highlights of the park are a number of environmental initiatives taken during design and construction of the park  leading to a sustainable landscape. The Park was awarded the highest rating viz “Platinum’by Indian Green Building Council earlier this year. Incidentally this is the highest rating ever achieved in the Green Landscape Category of IGBC.

The artistic installations in the park have been created from waste materials generated from the Delhi Metro’s construction as well as operational sites. Artists from across the country have come together to create these beautiful installations, all of which carry pertinent messages on a range of issues.  Almost one third of the materials used in the park are salvaged materials and it has been ensured that 100% waste was diverted from landfills. Trees and shrubs that have been planted are mostly native species and require less water. Apart from these, many features such as solar power plant, rain water harvesting structure, use of STP treated water, composting pit etc has been provided in the park to support environmental sustainability.
