Delhi Metro to Observe ‘Smart Card Week’ From 30th January 2012 to 5th February 2012
The Delhi Metro will be observing
30th January 2012 to 5th February 2012 as "Smart Card
Week" to promote and popularize extensive use of
Contactless Smart Card (CSC) for its frequent travelers and
tourists alike. The theme of the week will be "Be SMART, Travel SMART, Use SMART CARD". During this week,
‘Special
Counters’ will be made operational at twenty Metro stations having the highest ridership/footfalls
(List of stations
attached).
These counters will be manned by a special team of Customer Relation Assistants (CRAs) to brief and guide the passengers on
Smart Card, which is a special type of ticket used for multiple journeys based on value available on it. Commuters will be
encouraged to use Smart Card to save time from daily purchase of tokens, standing in Queues to purchase tokens, to avail 10%
discount on every journey, for freedom of choice of originating and destination station, freedom from keeping change every
time etc. Similarly, tourists coming to visit Delhi Metro will be explained the concept of Tourist Smart Card for unlimited
rides for a single day and three day period.
To provide greater awareness among commuters, advertisements through FM Radio channels will also be aired by highlighting 10%
discount on CSC usage and other related benefits, during the week. Printed literature detailing everything about the Smart
Card and its provisions will also be made available at Special Counters for passengers. Smart Cards can be purchased from
Customer Care Centers of any station.
Presently, about 65% of the Metro commuters are using Smart Card every day. About 12 thousand Metro Smart cards are being
sold each day from the Metro stations and about 6.5 Lakh tokens are sold each day. DMRC is also providing dedicated exit
gates only for Smart Card users at many stations.
