Altercation at Karkarduma Metro Station Involving a Passenger and Metro On 13th April 2011

The DMRC would like to clarify that in the incident which happened on 13th April 2011 in which two DMRC staff have already been suspended, preliminary investigation being conducted by the DMRC indicates that Mr. S K Jain, the passenger involved in the incident used abusive language against DMRC staff and unauthorizedly jumped over the AFC Gates and entered into the paid area. On this, the Customer Care staff warned him of penalty for unlawful entry into the area after which Mr. Jain began a physical altercation with the Metro staff while continuously abusing the staff. He also called 15-20 persons to support him creating a ruckus in the area. The Delhi Metro Rail Police were informed by the station authorities about the incident and the DMRC staff involved in the incident have also lodged a complaint with the SHO of Yamuna Bank station for taking necessary legal action against Mr. Jain for obstructing Metro officials from performing their duties

The DMRC staff has also alleged that they were manhandled and pushed by Mr. Jain and his supporters and they reacted only in self defence. Mr. S K Jain had already received the full refund of his amount from the Customer Care staff which was given to him from the Station Control Room as change was not available with the Customer Care staff on duty at that time at Karkarduma Metro station and even after that he had jumped over the AFC gates unauthorisedly and entered into the paid area as mentioned in the first para above.

The following sequence of events may also be seen:-

1. The passenger exited from AFC gate at Karkarduma station at 7:25 pm on 13/4/2011

2. At 7:33 pm the passengers had received the refund of Rs. 86.50/- on his Smart Card No. 34913669.

3. At 7:44 pm the passenger called up the DMRC Control Centre complaining that he had not received the refund which is a complete contradiction of point no. 2 above.

As such it appears that the passenger may have deliberately jumped the AFC gates with the intention of creating an uncomfortable situation/nuisance in DMRC premises.

The DMRC inquiry is still going on and will also be taking the medical report of Mr. Jain and his statement into account before giving a final report on the incident.
