Success of an organization is often adjudged not only by its financial sustainability, but also its credibility amongst its stakeholders. The credibility is built by the social acceptability and the environmental awareness of the organization. Recognizing the needs for the social and economic credibility, DMRC right from its inception, has taken a number of measures for protecting the environment and conserving the resources.

Innovation drives DMRC's commitment on protection of natural resources and efficient use of energy across its construction and operations & maintenance. DMRC has formulated Policies on Environment, Energy Management, Water Management, Waste Management, Quality, QEHS and Solar Energy Policies, which guide the various activities that take place under its Project and Operation & Maintenance (O&M) Division. One of the highlights of its Environment policy is compliance to relevant environmental legislation and regulations. Despite increase in the scale of operations DMRC has accomplished success in the implementation of these policies and has performed reasonably well on the scale of energy efficiency, the usage of renewable energy in operations, re-plantation of trees in affected areas and the restoration of water bodies. In construction activities all contracts awarded by DMRC has Environment Management Manual as an integral part and all contractors are required to implement the requirements contained therein.
