Bio-gas plant at Shastri Park depot was inaugurated on 1st October 2016. The plant is first of its kind in DMRC to process organic waste and convert it into useful bio-gas.
Organic waste generated from DMRC facilities at Shastri Park viz Depot canteen, staff quarters and hostels will be utilised in this plant to generate bio gas. The plant has a capacity to process 1000 kg of organic waste per day and convert it into 80-90 n.cum of bio-gas which would then be supplied to depot canteen for cooking purpose. In addition to bio-gas the plant also produces manure which would be used for horticulture works. Previously DMRC have been using organic waste converter and composting pit to process organic waste which only produce manure. The plant has been set-up in line with DMRC’s Waste Management Policy which says re-utilize or re-cycles waste.
